La histoire del camping Langenwald
The history of the area around Camping Langenwald is very interesting and important for Freudenstadt. The beautiful valley where the Langenwald is situated is called the Forbach valley. The Forbach is the little river that has its source on the Kniebis, the highest part of Freudenstadt. The river was very important in former times. The first settlers used the hydropower for their mills, corn mills and saw mills and also for transportation. Typical traditional crafts of the Black Forest, e.g. glass making, charcoal burning and mining, can be found here. If you take a walk down the Forbach valley you will find relicts of the times when this valley once was a centre of early industrialisation in southern Germany. Going back to the glacial period we find the reason for the very typical landscape of the Forbach valley. The climate thousands of years ago formed this valley, the Langenwald and their austere character.
The Langenbrunnenweiher lake is upstream of the camp site.
A historical map of the saw mill in the Langenwald
Before the Camping Langenwald opened its doors in these beautiful surroundings, which is now 50 years ago, there was a saw mill right here.
